The Bible leaves no doubt as to what Satan's ministers are like. For people who doubt that the 2x2 religion is a product of the devil, I thought it would be a good exercise to step through the process of using the Bible to create a description of Satan's ministers and then seeing if indeed the older brothers, overseers, workers and elders fit that description.
Satan's Minister' Clothing
A commonly known passage of scripture that the friends can relate to:
Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
God Says to Beware
Let's glean from this scripture what it actually says. First, it says to beware of false prophets. God wants us to beware or be aware of false prophets. It's not something we can safely ignore. It's something that requires attention.
False Prophets Exist
False prophets exist. This much is clear. They are agents of the devil. And true prophets are prophets of God. Some people don't believe in Satan. Some people believe that people are good by nature. The idea of a good human nature is not a teaching of Jesus Christ, but a false teaching of the devil.
False Prophets Have Good Appearance
It says that these false prophets come in sheep's clothing. I'm sure all can agree that we're not talking about people running around in lambskins and saying "baaaaa". Jesus is metaphorically talking about these false prophets taking on the appearance of sheep, aka Christians. Jesus Christ is the metaphorical Good Shepherd (the only good Shepherd). This is reason enough to beware of false prophets. They know what it takes to deceive people. They know a good appearance will fool people. It's not about false prophets being in wacko extremist cults that Jesus is warning about. He's talking about false prophets who have an appearance of being in a Christian church. They have an appearance of righteousness. They think know what righteousness looks like from the outward perspective and they copy this outward appearance. It's not from their heart though, it's divisive. They have an appearance of being a sheep with God as their Shepherd. They are doing this on purpose with ill intent. And if you would ask them, they would deny it.
False Prophets Get Close
These false prophets are trying to get close by deceiving people through an appearance of harmlessness, righteousness and goodness. They know that appearing like a sheep will get them close to a position of being trusted as "They're one of us." Satan loves it when a Christian is deceived and says "They said they believe in God" as if this is full justification of a good inward intention.
False Prophets Have an Appetite/Ravening
Secondly, it says that inwardly these false prophets are ravening wolves. This is a metaphor. It is telling what their insides are like. Wolves devour and kill. They have an appetite for meat. They don't eat grass. They are ravening. They have an appetite for this sort of thing. And what do wolves eat? Sheep. If a wolf is hungry/ravening and it gets close to a sheep, it's going to take it down and eat it. At this point, it's inward nature shows that it is a wolf, and not a sheep. The actions speak louder than the previous outward appearance. The outward appearance now takes on a wolf eating a sheep. And it doesn't care.
Mistake to Judge on Outward Appearance
Also, they have an outward appearance that does not match their inward "ravening" of a wolf. The lesson to be learned is that they have a good appearance to cover their inward evil. So it would be a mistake to use outward appearance to claim any good intentions from them. Some people say illogically, "Why so and so could never do that. They come to services. They've said this and that and...." These people haven't learned and believed what Jesus Christ said about false prophets. Calling a true witness a liar does not make sense.
2 Corinthians 11:12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Paul is writing about people claiming to be apostles of Jesus Christ but who are false prophets. He says that they glory. False prophets like to put on a good appearance to have the praise of men. Do you know of anyone who claims to be an apostle of Jesus Christ and is praised by men?
Paul writes that they are deceitful workers. These people are busy doing their work: their work is deception. They work at it. They think about it. They plan deceit. They devise deceit. It is their work. They are good at it. They are workers...of deceit.
