Marks of the workers

The overseers claim that there are "marks of the true ministry" taught in Mathew 10, Mark 10, Luke 10 and John 10. Even some of the followers have heard of these marks and where they are in the Bible. Typically, followers won't know where to find these verses unless they're trying to recruit someone into the cult and ask the workers.

In a nutshell they believe that ministers must:

  1. Sell everything (including their house and car) and give it to workers/poor
  2. Be homeless
  3. Only go out in pairs
  4. Obey their older companion and overseer even over the Bible
  5. Not have a job (other than preaching, unless in a foreign area where they use a job as a cover)
  6. Believe in only one saved group/fold (their way)
  7. That all other ministers are false ministers/preachers
  8. Preach only in area designated by overseer

These beliefs come from the original teachins of William Irvine and his early followers. They are still taught today by the workers and their followers. They are hid from new people because they know that "strangers" will be scared off if they find out that the 2x2s believe that other preachers are going to hell if they aren't homeless and go out in pairs. You can easily understand how that would scare many away from them. But if they get people to like them first, perhaps they can condition them to accept it. Now, I will show you the verses they wrest to try to support the teachings of William Irvine.

Matthew 10

I will add to this more later, just putting this up for now. In Mark 6:7 (the only verse that mentions this), Jesus sent the 12 apostles out in pairs. However, Jesus also only sent them to the Jews, gave them power over unclean spirits, power to cast out devisl (something the workers don't claim to be able to do). So the 2x2s use this to claim that one of the marks of the true minsitry is that they must go out in pairs. It's like saying, "Because I go out with another preach, I must be an apostle". It's a ridiculous claim. No where in the Bible did Jesus teach that evangelists, preachers or ministers must only go out in pairs. His commands in Matthew 10 and Mark 6 were directed to Jews

Mark 10

They claim that this chapter shows that a true minister must sell his house and give the money to the poor/workers

A man came to Jesus and Jesus told him to sell everything and give it to the poor. The 2x2s take this totally out of context and claim that this is the example where everyone who wants to be a worker must sell everything and give it to the poor workers

Luke 10

This is the verses they use to justify eating other people's food.

John 10

They claim that because they don't get fixed wages that they must not be getting paid and so therefore they are not hirelings.

Evidence in Writings

See last part of the first page where it says "who bear in their lives the true marks of being called and sent of God" in True Ministry Claim

I have more more to add here, and hope to do it soon. I will show how what is in scripture lends no credence to their teachings and commands of the overseers
