Girlfriend religion is the name given when a person adopts their girlfriends religion to make points with the girl or the girl's friends or the girl's parents.
Girlfriend religion is about telling someone that they just need to say that they believe like you do ie: "Just say you believe in Jesus Christ and you will be saved." Here's a line in the scripture that shows God's feelings about this twisted gospel:
Eze_13:22 Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life...
Girlfriend Religion and Becoming a 2x2 to Please Your Girlfriend
Christianity is different than most religions. With the 2x2s, you can just go to meetings to please your girlfriend. And then you can ask about "professing". If you really want to make points, then you can profess in a meeting. To really go all the way, you can get baptized. And you can do all this without having to confess your sins or search your heart about the hypocrisy of saying you want to serve God but not really having faith in God. You don't have to confess your sins with the 2x2 religion. It is not a part of their baptismal process and is not expected. So you can remain a hypocrite. But no matter, because the 2x2 religion is full of hypocrisy and you would just fit right in. So there you go. Girlfriend religion is easy with the 2x2s.
Girlfriend Religion and Christianity
For a 2x2 to become a Christian for their girlfriend's sake is pretty easy on the outside too. But the problem is that there are Christians who know their Bible and will see right through the girlfriend religion show. Parents of the girl, if they are Godly, will quickly spot a fraud and charmer. As Christians, we are taught by the scripture to look out for liars, deceivers, false prophets and the like. A fraud (guy who gets "girlfriend religion") will be spotted because they won't want to confess their sins or have their motives exposed. They will be short and repetitive in their answers and reluctant to talk, especially about their own religion or their new religion.
Men seeking to become a Christian to please their girlfriend are also going to have a tough time when the girl's parents become concerned. This is because the ten commandments are taught and believed and followed by Christians. One of the commandments is that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. And a Christian girl will love God more than any man, and especially a deceiver, flatterer or charmer. The second most important commandment for a Christian girl is that she love her neighbor as herself. This means that she will consider her family along with her friends in determining who she would allow herself to be courted by.
Of course, the easiest thing for a non-Christian charmer to do would be to get girlfriend religion, pretend to be a Christian, and corrupt the girl's morals so that she doesn't obey the commandments of God and turns on her parents. All this would need to be done and have to be done if the girl's parents were Godly and the man was not willing to confess and forsake his sins because he really doesn't believe in God's forgiveness, God's mercy and loves someone else more than God (idolatry).
There are a lot of churches that accept girlfriend religion because they run like a business with a cloak of God's name. This works great for the dating couple to find shelter in "She's going to church with me now and the pastor thinks their sincere." This causes great confusion as dating couples misuse the pastor or the pastor uses the situation to gain new customers.
