Deceivers and the Deceived
Deceivers and Deception
Deceivers are people who get us to believe lies. If we believe truth more than lies, it keeps us from being deceived. If we don't know the truth, it cannot set us free.
Heb 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
Godly Parents, Godly Friends
Godly parents and Godly friends help us from being deceived. When we talk with them and tell them what is going on in our lives, it may raise red flags and cause them to warn us about things. God has given us parents to look out for our soul. Being in fellowship with strong Christians helps preserve us from deception too.
What Allows Deception?
There are many things that allow us to be deceived. If we don't believe the truth, we will not know truth from error. If we allow ourselves to be "bribed", than it distorts our judgment. Seeking to please an ungodly person, seeking honor of men, not knowing God, not obeying God...all these can allow us to be deceived. The truth is not complicated. Here is a list from a parable of Jesus about the sower, seed and soils that gives other things too: deceitfulness of riches, lusts of other things entering in...
Things that Cause Disbelief
There are many things that cause disbelief. Desiring to please men, seeking honor of men, not knowing Bible, being brainwashed by deceivers so we cannot understand the Bible.
Lack of Faith
If we don't believe in God and/or don't believe in the Bible, then we will be deceived. There is no viable alternative to truth.
When people are too proud to admit their error, they continue in the wrong path. You can imagine how much humbling it would take if you found out you were preaching lies and here you have sold everything and given it to the OVERSEER.
Children like to please their parents. They seek the approval of their parents. When their parents are not around, they find someone else to please that will encourage them. I was weakened as a child, when my father was not there for me, I began to seek to please the WORKERS. This allowed me to be deceived. This is why my parents and I did not question when the WORKERS told me to sell everything and give it to them. My parents were deceived and I was deceived. I had been told lies since a child.
Joh 5:44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
Not Believing in Bible and People God Sends Allows Us to be Deceived by Deceivers
Joh 5:46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
God had sent people into my life to warn me, even when I was a WORKER. But some appealed to my flesh, and so I discounted them. Even as a WORKER, I was praying that God would show me the truth.
Some deceivers try to find well-meaning, gullible people and take advantage of them. For example, they may fake a flat tire on the side of a dark seldom-traveled road , and when someone comes by, may flag them down. They may put on a story to deceive the person, to make them feel sorry for them, leave the safety of their car. Then the deceiver can mug them, taking their money etc. and drive off in their car. The unsuspecting person will be largely defenseless (not expecting such a thing). The shock would be enormous and the advantage to the deceiver. What caused a person to be deceived enough to leave the safety of their car on a dark road? They may have believed that all people are good (not a message of the Bible). They may have believed that there are not people out there who will take time to put up a "front" so they can mug others (not a message of the Bible). It pays to be wary. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Some people enjoy deceiving others and make it a game.
The devil works by enticement. He may try to get a man to teach a woman the Bible. It gives a seemingly good excuse. But then he is able to tempt the man to seduce the woman.
Spotting Liars and Deceivers
I've read many examples in the Bible where it shows how to spot deceivers and liars. A popular example is of Solomon. see 1 Kings 3:16-28. Also Jesus Christ gave examples in Mathew 25:24-28 where the servants claimed belief (a lie - about his lord ) contradicted the man's actions (hiding the talent instead of giving to usurers). Jesus Christ also taught us through his example of how to ask questions to spot deceivers. Observe this interesting conversation when Jesus exposes the hypocrisy of the chief priests, scribes and elders:
Luk 20:4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not? But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet. And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was.
I remember getting a haircut. A man sitting in a chair said to another man. "Such and such stock is great right now. I'm a broker. Would you like to buy some?" The other man asked "How much of that stock do you own?" "None", was the reply.
The WORKERS can be persuasive. But their business is like a ponzi scheme. "Sell everything and give it to the OVERSEERS, they say. Become a WORKER. And then you could ask them, well, did you sell everything and give it to the WORKERS? And they could answer "Yes, we did." But the thing is, to become a WORKER you have to deny the LORD and not fellowship with Christians. You have to sell your soul. Not such a great deal to become a WORKER. All the adoration of the FRIENDS isn't worth it. If you're looking for love, better to seek the praise of the LORD.
Want to spot the fraud in the OVERSEERS and WORKERS Religion? Ask them to put their foundational beliefs in writing and get 2 OVERSEERS to sign it. They are rife with false doctrine. Ask them to put their teachings on divorce and remarriage in writing. Ask them to put in writing that they believe that Christians have to PROFESS in a MEETINGS held by WORKERS to be "Saved".
Spotting deceivers is simple if we want to believe the truth, know the truth, receive exhortation, and learn from the Lord how to ask questions and compare a person's words with their actions. After exiting the cult, I have read my Bible and have better understanding of many things that I just couldn't understand before. I've gone to some religious services and spotted the lies being taught. Many have followed the false religion role model in order to make a buck. When you know what God has said, and what's written in the Bible, then spotting lies becomes much simpler and less confusing. You learn what questions to ask when people try to take advantage of you.
2Co 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
Works of the Deceivers Expose Who They are
1Jn_3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
If someone is trying to teach you some religion, and they are not righteous, then don't believe them. Anyone want to trust the WORKERS who molested kids? How about believing the OVERSEERS that have covered up child sexual abuse? Want to become a WORKER like them? Do you want to hear their gospel? Or are you ready to read and believe the Bible?
