Witnessing to 2x2s
Some people have family, friends, employees, coworkers and bosses who are 2x2s and you want to witness to them. This page is written for you. If you have any comments or experiences regarding witnessing to 2x2s, please share them in the box below.
Some people wonder how to talk to family members who are in the 2x2 religion or 2x2 cult.
These are my opinions and experiences. I will tell you how some 2x2s respond. God said to treat others as we would want to be treated. This requires thought and prayer and that's a great start in witnessing to a 2x2.
While it is our responsibility to witness to other people as saints, we are not guaranteed that they will become Christians. Being a witness is enough.
And while you may share the gospel, someone else may make the gospel real to them and someone else may baptize them. But God gives the increase.
They may hate you for witnessing to them. It will probably make them very uncomfortable. If they love the lie the workers preach, they will hate the gospel. If they love the workers who lie to them, the won't love Jesus Christ. It's no surprise. The scripture warns us.
Luke 21:17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.
John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Warning - Physical Harm
If they feel their belief in the cult is threatened or you share too much that exposes the cult for what it is, 2x2s may get violent. They may feel like they are dying and physically try to protect themselves. They may get in your face up close and stare you down. This may help expose them (for your own knowledge) for what they are really like, and cause them to be sorry later.
They probably won't understand why they feel like being violent. So be aware, cautious. 2x2s feel like they are the "chosen ones" of God and that you are an infidel, unbeliever and deluded. They may see you as a violent threat.
I don't know of any 2x2 yet that has killed someone for witnessing to them. 2x2s typically try to discredit people, drive them insane through lies and peer pressure.
Many spouses have been divorced. Many children have been "disowned". Some engagements have been broken. Some friendships have ceased. Many families have been split.
How women dress greatly affects how much a 2x2 is willing to listen to them. If you wear make-up and jewelry, they are likely to label you as "worldly" and outright reject what you have to say. It is not a sin to not put on makeup or jewelry to reach these lost souls.
If you cuss, they will probably discount you immediately.
Religious jargon: If you use the word some religious words like "hermeneutics" you will probably intimidate them. They are not used to talking to "outsiders" about God, the word of God etc.
If you bring up your denomination, they you will be labeled "evil". While you may believe that Lutherans are OK, they won't. While you may be Baptist, they will probably believe that the Baptists are a wicked religion because they meet in church buildings. They've been prejudiced against "denominations" although they are a denomination themselves - the 2x2s. They have taken many names for themselves over the years to cloak their business.
Find Common Ground
Jesus told parables that everyone could related to. He understood and reached out to farmers, wine-makers, and the common folks. Find some common ground that you can build on. Talk about weather, sports, (avoid TV shows because they likely don't have a TV and despise those who do), . IE:
Anything you do say will be remembered. For years thereafter. Anything you say wrong will leave a lasting impression. They will probably mock you at the next Sunday morning meeting in their "testimony". Better to say a few choice words that can be understood.
If you are a woman, and the man a 2x2, then avoid situations alone. Do I need to write this? And yet there are still people who claim to be Christians and then live with the 2x2 they are trying to convert? Why do I have to write down the obvious?
Some 2x2s are very clever. If you're a novice and don't understand the gospel, best to leave witnessing to someone more experienced so you aren't deceived by their clever lies. 2x2s will learn tactics from the workers and use them on you. Many are in the cult for the power that lies grant them.
Short and Sweet
Their attention span, patience and tolerance will be short. Keep it short and simple. Simple concepts like Jesus Christ being God in the flesh may be overwhelming to them and have profound implications. They may need quite a bit of time. You don't feed a whole steak to someone with a mouse of an appetite. Teach them about the Father. If they don't love the Father, they won't love Jesus Christ. If they reject the Father, they will reject Jesus Christ.
Don't point them to this website. Let them find it on their own. There are things I've stated that are too hard for them to accept. I think it's best that they read things in their own time and privacy to be able to handle things better. Many need the anonymity or reading a website about their religion. I think I'm the only former worker who has put up a website telling the world about what the cult is from a former workers's perspective.
Avoid complicated topics unless trying to show how far "off" they are. Anything "complicated" like the Jesus Christ being the word of God will be sure to put you at odds with them.
If you tell them that they're believing in lies and give them the verses to prove it, they will feel like they are dying and that you're the one choking them. Better to help them slowly over much time. Sometimes it is necessary to be firm. As written:
Jude 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
On the other hand, if they claim to be a Christian, pointing out the fact that they believe in a "gospel" that is different than the Bible will be quite necessary.
If they don't respond to a simple question, you may want to share a true story with a good moral that they can think about. Just because they don't reply doesn't mean that they did not hear you. It may be they just don't know what to say in return.
If they don't respond to questions, it may be because (1 or more of following):
They are afraid/terrified to miss meetings. They may deny it. Attendance is important to them and their attendance is monitored by their elders. So inviting them to your church is something they would be afraid to do. They may trade you attending their services for them attending yours, but the goal is to get you to believe that meetings are harmless and to give the spirit in the meetings a chance to work. This spirit is not of God.
Don't Believe in a Rewarding God
2x2s don't believe in God and don't believe that God is good and a rewarder of those who search after him. The 2x2s do believe in the workers and are motivated by fear. They dread being kicked out of the organization because they equate this to a loss of salvation.
2 Timothy 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
Sadly, many 2x2s claim to be Christians. And when they learn the true gospel, they just blend it/mix it in with their 2x2 religion, making it of no effect. You know that they have not acknowledged God nor the gospel because there is no repentance, they continue to live in sin. This happens with 2x2s who date Christians and is often called boyfriend or girlfriend religion.
Ignorance of Religious Subjects
2x2s in general are very ignorant about religious topics.
2x2s don't understand that it was the 12 apostles that were sent to the Jews in pairs. They have been brainwashed to believe that preachers have to go in pairs. There is no scripture to support this teaching of theirs.
They may not know that other religions send out ministers in pairs. This would shock some of them because they believe only the workers go out in pairs. They probably don't know that in the South of the USA, many ministers are itinerant. This would open up the eyes of some 2x2s to realize that the workers aren't the only itinerant ministers.
2x2s are taught that preachers must be homeless. This is not a teaching of scripture. Abraham was a prophet and lived in his own home. 2x2s are dumbed down, confused, and brainwashed.
Telling a 2x2 about the Faith Mission would be an eye opener. Most 2x2s believe that it was started on the shores of Galilee. So when they learn about the Faith Mission (that William Irvine copied) which sent out workers in pairs, itinerant etc then this is a big surprise. To think that William Irvine was the founder and just copied the Faith Mission would be a shock. And to find out that the Faith Mission has conventions and William Irvine copied that from the Faith Mission would be another eye opener. These eye openers stretch their mind and cause them to think about everything in a new light. And once they have learned these things, it will help them think more objectively about what they've been taught.
Curiosity and Topic Introduction
It's not necessary to make sure a 2x2 understands everything. They are so fearful and proud that they probably would not admit that they want to know more. They may ask the workers a question. Or, they may go on the INTERNET and do some research and afterwards delete their browser's history file. So please know that if you introduce a subject like William Irvine or the Faith Mission, they may go online when you are not looking and learn more about it. Granted that making them curious or introducing topics that they haven't thought about will not save them, but perhaps years later they may learn more, exit the cult and become born again. And many people may have played a part in helping them.
1 Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Hated for Helping
If you try to help a 2x2, you are likely to be hated. They will likely find as much fault with you as possible to try to justify ignoring what you say. The truth would require a huge change in their life and their way of thinking and many don't want to go through it. They are set in their ways.
Gospel Meetings and Workers
If you ask too many questions or if you go to meetings, then the workers are likely to get involved. This will cause huge problems. I encourage you to never go to their meetings. Let me explain.
Sunday Morning Meetings and "Bible Studies
If you go to a Sunday Morning Meeting or a Bible Study, then the elder will find out about you. This will cause the ELDER to be interested in the 2x2s relationship with you and they will probably ask the 2x2 questions about your "progress". Remember, they will play along with you thinking that they are making progress with you. They may "accept" whatever you say without contesting it, but in their mind they will probably just be throwing it away, only looking for signs that you are "coming along" and may soon be ready to PROFESS. Avoiding MEETINGS will avoid the involvement of the 2x2's ELDER. Not that there is a reason to keep anything secret, but it helps the 2x2 to learn more without someone breathing down their neck.
Most 2x2s when exiting the cult will hate Christians. This is what they were taught. And they will be upset at the person who helped them get out of the cult. If they are FORCED OUT of the cult (asked not to take part in MEETINGS) then they may be embarrassed. They may put on a show of how they feel so much freedom now, but this is temporary. All the feelings of hurt, shame and letting other people down will take a toll. Very few 2x2s who leave the cult every become born-again Christians. Very, very few. And a large part of this is that people lay a foundation of "just say you believe in God" instead of faith in Jesus Christ. So they just become a "Christianized 2x2" and the Word of God has no effect. You will see no repentance or just repentance for showmanship.
