Need Old Testament to Understand New Testament

To understand the New Testament, I needed to read and understand the Old Testament. I have 2x2 workers suggest that it is a waste of time to read the Old Testament part of the Bible when we have the New Testament to read. But from what I've seen, they twist the New Testament and deceive people because these people don't understand the Old Testament.

Let me clarify. I don't mean to say that you cannot be saved if you don't read the Old Testament. I didn't say that and don't mean to. I don't believe the thief on the cross understood everything (the one that got saved) and I sure don't understand everything. I am just saying that reading and understanding the old testament part of the Bible has really helped me understand the New Testament.

Since a child, I have read the Bible. I read under the covers of my bed at night. I also read here and there, finding a "testimony" for Sunday morning meetings and Wed Night Bible studies (we didn't actually study the Bible at these meetings). I ran across these verses talking about feasts and the law and Moses. I knew Moses gave the ten commandments that he got from God, but I couldn't name the feasts and didn't understand why they were such an integral part of the Jewish life and were commanded by God so they could remember the great exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt to the promised land. I didn't know about the old covenant that God made with the Hebrews. And I certainly didn't know what the New Covenant entailed. I was never taught these things in meetings. I didn't understand them. When I read through the Old Testament recently, it gave me a much better understanding of what was going on when Jesus Christ was preaching in the flesh in Israel.

I knew about the passover feast, but it was in a twisted way. The workers use the passover feast in the home as their example of the "shadow" of their Sunday morning meetings. But Sunday morning meetings don't reflect the passover feast at all. The 2x2 friends feed on the will and teachings of the workers at their Sunday morning meetings, and not solely on the Lamb of God.

Old Testament Believed if Believing in Jesus Christ

Believing what is written in the Old Testament will cause a person to believe in Jesus Christ.

Joh_1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the same God of Paul, the apostle of Jesus Christ. If we want to know God, then we can read the Old Testament as well as the New Testament. If you think that reading the Old Testament is a waste of time and need to focus on the New Testament, then your god may not be the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Joh_5:46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.

How Understanding the Old Testament Helped Me Understand the New Testament

Understanding the Old Testament (I'm not saying I understand Everything!) helped me understand the New Testament. Here are a few things:

Deu_16:16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty:
  • The feasts pointed the Jews to remember God leading them out of Egypt -feast of unleavened bread, feast of weeks/harvest/firstfruit, feast of tabernacles/booths,
  • the sacrifice for sins helped me understand why Jesus Christ died for my sins
  • The law helped me know God's will
  • The exodus of the Hebrews helped me understand Jesus Christ being the light of the world (the Hebrews were led about by a pillar of fire by night)
  • the serpent of brass helped me understand how lifting up Jesus Christ heals us
Joh_3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
  • The sacrifice of the spotless lamb helped me understand Jesus Christ dying for my sins (He is without sin)
  • The scape goat helps me understand Jesus Christ suffering outside the "camp" / city of Jerusalem

Not Christians?

The WORKERS don't like the OT because in it you find conclusive proof of salvation by faith in God and redemption by the blood of the Lamb of God. That said, you don't have apostles holding MEETINGS, telling people to sell all and give it to them etc in the new testament scriptures either.

You can find the gospel, as always throughout the Bible. And maybe reading the OT helped me to see things without the brainwashing of the WORKERS in my mind from listening to them talk about the New Testament. Of which, I say, the WORKERS don't even know what the new testament is. The fact that WORKERS don't teach, believe in nor keep the ten commandments is proof of this. In fact, if you ever find a "Christian" Church, that doesn't love others, will not reconcile after their offenses, do not keep the ten commandments and despises those who do, then they are not Christians. Do not be deceived. The New Testament is the law of God written in our hearts. And it is this law that was written in the hearts of David (a man after God's own heart), the son of Jessie.

See this story of redemption, told by a great man of faith:

Gen 48:14 And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn. And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day, The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

Now, who redeemed Israel?

There are many things to write here about the benefits of understanding the Old Testament when reading the New Testament, but if a person doesn't already believe in God and believes in the workers' way instead, you are off to a bad start. I have been there, and it's ugly. I had to try to make everything in the Bible fit within my 2x2 understanding, and it hindered me completely.
