Workers Excommunicate Followers Who are Problems

Reasons why overseers ask people not to take part in meetings:
  • You won't obey what the workers tell you to do (ruffles their feathers)
  • You are teaching something they don't like that is dividing the people (causes loss in workers' financial support)
  • You start preaching a lot to people in meeting (taking their place and makes them less important)
  • You openly defy the overseers (they want to maintain control over everyone)
  • You are living with someone out of wedlock (brings reproach to cult)
  • It becomes publicly known that you are sleeping with someone (and they know you don't have the "goods on them" to expose the overseer)
  • You are causing too big of a stir in the field (too much publicity, gets people asking questions they don't want asked)
  • You haven't professed yet or won't (you need to profess before you "take part" in meetings)
  • You are more of a liability than an asset to them (any combination of the above is greater than their reason to keep you around)

Matthew 18:15-20

I've never seen nor heard of the workers following Jesus Christ's teachings on excommunication in Matthhew 18:15-20. They just rule over people. If they don't like you and want to kick you out, then they find a plausible reason and just do it.

Mat 18:15-20 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

There are several reasons why workers will put up with more "nonsense" from you:

  • You are a child of someone important in their group
  • People don't take you seriously
  • You aren't drawing too much attention
  • You can be easily dismissed by other people
  • Other people are not listening to you
  • You are giving them a fair amount of their income
  • You will probably be leaving them your inheritance
  • You are more of an asset than a liability

How The Excommunication Workers

Giving people "the boot" involves several people: overseers who make the ultimate decision, workers to carry out his orders, elders and bible-study elders to enforce the "no testimony" order, and the followers of the cult (to not put up a big stink about the overseer's decision and to believe the overseers version of what went on).

The overseers make the ultimate decision, being fed information chiefly by the workers in the field that year, and maybe the year before and some from the elder of the Sunday morning meeting where the person goes.

The workers in the field that year and the year before have come to the conclusion that a person should no longer be "in fellowship" with them.

The elders in the field are typically consulted. The elder of the meeting where the person goes is often the initiator. They see the every-week interaction and feel the effects of the person they want axed.

The elder typically makes the first phone call to talk with the workers. Then the workers mull it over. If they see the merit of stopping a person from "giving their testimony" in meetings, the workers talk with the overseer. The overseers may even consult with the elder so that when the decision "comes down", they are all on the same page as to what story will be told. The overseer says something (maybe in a coded way) to the worker in charge in that field. They make a call to the person and let them know that they can "no longer take part" and may give a plausible reason why. They feel out how the person will respond. If they are angry, the worker may contact the elder and warn them.

One of the workers is typically the person to axe the person. This keeps the overseer from doing all the dirty deeds. They have to maintain their image. The followers are disposable. The elders are disposable. The workers are disposable. But the 2x2 organization "needs" constancy (for appearance sake) in the overseer department and around the "head workers" or "older brother workers".

There are many things accomplished in an excommunication from the cult. It maintains the authority and exercises the leadership role of the overseers. The overseers get to feel out who is with them or against them by how people respond. He gets to see how they respond to his suggestions. It lets the workers know who is in charge: him. It lets the followers in the field know who is in charge: the workers and the overseer and that they had better be careful and tread light around that elder.

The 2x2 followers in the field slowly find out that someone has been asked not to take part. It's on a need to know basis at first (elders and bible study elders are first to find out after the workers). The workers find out who is for or against them by how people respond to the excommunication news. If a person gets to questioney (is that a word?, asks "too many questions"), then it makes the workers suspicious and cautions them to watch out for them. Also, how well the excommunication is received lets them know how well the brainwashing is working in the field. If many people are "unsettled", then the overseer may need to pay a visit to the field to try to calm things down and pass around their version of what "actually" went on. People in the field seldom call the person up to find out their perspective on things because they don't want to be "seen" with that person and get a "blot" to their name.

What an Excommunication from the 2x2s Doesn't Mean

An excommunication from the cult doesn't mean you are going to hell. They insinuate or may say that you have "lost out" if you quit coming to meetings, but it has no backing in heaven. Matthew 18 applies to the Christian church and offenses within the church, not to cults. So if you've been asked to "not take part" in meetings, that has no direct bearing on whether you are saved or not. Being saved has to do with repenting, believing in God from your heart, obeying God and keeping his commandments, loving God, yourself and others as Jesus loves us.

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Jesus Christ speaking to Saul, see Act 26:18, see Salvation through Jesus Christ.
