Accepted Sacrifices

An acceptable sacrifice comes from faith and obedience to God and results in persecution but is rewarded by God.

The First Accepted Sacrifice

The first accepted sacrifice was offered by Abel.

Gen 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

I don't know how old Abel was when Cain killed him. But Cain's righteousness is known even today, several thousand years later. God didn't forget Abel's sacrifice. Paul wrote about Abel thousands of years later in Heb 11.

Gen 4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.

Accepted Sacrifices, Pleasing God and Righteousness

Heb 11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

Abraham Offering Isaac

Jas_2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Faith Required to Please God

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Faith is a prerequisite (required) to please God. This verse certainly explains why Cain's offering was rejected. Cain didn't believe in loving others as himself (he killed Abel, his brother). Cain evidently didn't believe that God was a just rewarder. Faith certainly is required to offer an acceptable sacrifice to God. If we don't believe God will reward us, then we would believe that a sacrifice to God would be a total loss and so would not do it or wouldn't care how it is done.

Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Noah used 100 years of his life to build an ark. He believed God. He obeyed God. It led to his salvation. Around the world in many cultures, the story of the flood is still told. It's told because we are all Noah's descendents and because Noah was spared by God. Even today, just like Noah, Christians warn others about sin, cursing and death to lead people to Christ for salvation. It is to prevent their destruction and bring about their salvation.

Gen_8:20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

I wonder if this was a sacrifice of Thanksgiving. Certainly Noah had many things to be thankful for. God spared his soul.

Gen 8:21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

God was pleased with Noah's sacrifice. Noah knew how to make an offering to the LORD.

Abraham Obeyed and Loved God More than Anyone Else

The greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Abraham had faith in God. Abraham obeyed God. Abraham's sacrifice is an example of this.

Mat_10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Jesus said that we must love no one more than God.

Gen_22:9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

God Tests Our Love for Him Through Sacrifice

Mat_10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

There comes times in life when God will test us to see if we love him more than anyone else. If we don't believe God is a rewarder, than we will choose someone else to please instead of God.

Mat 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it

Many people who have left the cult have had to decide for themselves if God would reward them or if they would instead choose their own father, mother, son or daughter over obedience to God. Many people who have been taught about Jesus Christ have had to decide whether they wanted to love a cult member above God and God's blessing. Life brings choices and it reveals whether we have faith in God.

Trial of Faith: Altars and Fire

You probably know that there were fires under the altar. What is this symbolic of?

Mar 9:49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Baptism of Fire

Luk_3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

Peter denied Jesus Christ and loved his life over Jesus Christ, but later repented. As God said to Cain, "Gen 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? "

Luk 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death. And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
Luk 12:49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Jesus Christ has come to divide. He wants us to love him above all others. He has come to prove us by fire. God doesn't want us to be people pleaser's or sacrifice righteousness for temporary relationships and selfish pleasures.

Mar_4:17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

I've seen families separated and destroyed as some choose to love God even though this results in their own spouse, children and parents are turned against them. These are hard choices to decide between God and a spouse who has threatened divorce if they quit going to MEETINGS. Children become bitter against relatives who leave the cult and start to believe in God. Even parents of sexually abused children will withhold information about crimes of WORKERS in order to keep dying grandparents in the cult. What a waste and what foolishness! They don't believe God is a rewarder. They don't believe in loving others as theirselves. They don't have faith in God.

2Ti_3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

If the sacrifice isn't on the altar, it won't feel the fire. If the sacrifice is on the altar, it will be exposed to fire. Paul wrote about those preaching other things to avoid persecution. Is false teaching to please people and avoiding persecution an acceptable sacrifice to God? These people preached circumcision to "make a fair shew in the flesh". God wants obedience from the heart, not a "fair shew in the flesh". There are many ways of "making a fair shew in the flesh" so that other people will justify ourselves. But will this make our offerings acceptable to God?

Gal_6:12 As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.

I remember Jay Wicks preaching at Boring Convention in about 1990/91. He said that a woman's love for God and submission was reflected by the length of her hair. Does this sound like a "fair shew in the flesh"? I rather believe that loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength shows our love for and submission to God. I believe rather as Jesus Christ teaches that loving our neighbor as ourself shows our love and submission to God. God doesn't ask for a fair shew in the flesh. It reminds me of these verses:

Mat 23:25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

God's Judgments at Last - The Souls Under the Altar

Rev_6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

These people under the altar had given and acceptable offering to the LORD.

Rev 16:5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy. And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Jesus Christ speaking to Saul, see Act 26:18, see Salvation through Jesus Christ.
