Sell All - The OVERSEERS Teaching on Becoming a WORKER
The OVERSEERS and WORKERS teach that the FRIENDS who want to become WORKERS must sell all and give the money to the poor (them) to become a WORKER. The OVERSEERS are the ones who reinforce this teaching. It's them and the OLDER BROTHERS that get the money typically. The WORKERS are obligated to go along, or they will lose their job. If they don't go along with the OVERSEERS greedy doctrine, then one year they may find at CONVENTION that their name is missing from the WORKERS LIST.
For all the EXWOREKRS, this page is for you. Here's how we got lied to by the OVERSEERS and WORKERS so they could get our money. And my hope is that you will find relief after reading this page, and you will be able to see what this scripture really means, and also share this with others.
The Sell All Challenge
"No way!" you say, "You don' to sell everything to become a WORKER." That's alright. Some people don't even know that WORKERS take collections at the end of meetings through handshakes. So, OK. Let me know of a WORKER who didn't have to sell everything to become a WORKER. Just put your name, address, phone and email in the box below and give me all your evidence. The reason why some 2x2s are so ignorant about the cult's teachings is that much of it is given out on a "need to know" basis.
Sure, one of the FRIENDS may have hid some of their assets when they went into the WORK. It's happened and come out before. But they had to sell everything the WORKERS knew about.
Sell All - I Was Duped and Defrauded
And if you became a WORKER because you thought it was God's calling and got duped by the WORKERS then as they say "Good luck" on getting your money back. If you go to the police and tell them you were defrauded and ripped off, they will most likely tell you something like, "You were stupid to give them your money." That's right. It's perfectly legal in the religious world and society to defraud people and rip them off.
The Sell All Punishment
But you OVERSEERS and WORKERS who read this, bear the following in mind. God's commandment is to love others as Jesus Christ loves us. And Jesus Christ is going to judge you by his words.
The Sell All - Twisting the Scriptures for Cult Greed
The WORKERS love to take greed and make it look so innocent and then twist scriptures to make it look legitamate. If you don't believe me, then ask them what scriptures they use to convince the FRIENDS to sell everything and give it to the poor (them) to become WORKERS like them?
Sell All - Scripture Twisted by OVERSEERS
Luk_18:22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
I struggled with this passage and finally got a grip on it. What the Bible actually means and what the OVERSEERS teach about it are so polar opposite that it was a huge relief to get my understanding "untwisted". What a relief! So what does this verse mean? Well, the only way I've found to understand the Bible is to believe in it. It's like a math book. How can you understand chapters 10 when you don't believe what is written in chapter 1?
About Bible Divisions
The Bible has been divided up into books, chapters and verses. The book division is based on the fact that the Bible is composed of 66 literal books. The division by chapters and verses were done by some monk(s) or so I've heard. But anyway, in my Bible, it says the division of paragraphs has been done by the Bible printer or whoever their translators are. My point being that I don't trust chapter divisions, verse divisions and paragraph divisions. I've even found typos and sentences that have been split in half over two verses! That doesn't affect my salvation, but again my point is, I've had to read my Bible and ignore those things, just to get the context of a story so I can understand what the author is trying to get across.
Like many passages in the Bible, sometimes two or more authors have written about an event. And it appears that is the case with this story of the rich young man who wanted to go to heaven. Yes, he wanted to go to heaven. And if you weren't there, then you are going to have to go off what is in the Bible, just like me.
I'm going to go through this passage and point out the obvious. Then maybe when I get to the end, you will wonder how in the world the WORKERS can make a living off of deceiving so many people.
Sell All - the Three Passages Twisted by Overseers
Matthew 19:21 "...go and sell that thou hast..."
Let's start at the beginning of this story.
Mat 19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
Jesus has just left a place (see Matthe 19:15) and a man comes up to him and calls him "Good Master". Some people have called me "boss" before and rightly so. I've never had someone come up to me and call me "Good Master". How about you? Well, anyway, this man calls Jesus Christ , "Good Master".
Then the mans asks Jesus Christ, "What good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" Obviously, this is a question. He's asking Jesus Christ what he can do to have eternal life. And perhaps you, like I did, will have a light bulb turn on in your head. And the thought may come to you "Hey, this man is talking about eternal life, NOT going into the WORK or becoming a preacher or something." And I assure you, that this thought is correct, as I hope you will see in the rest of this story and the other two passages. Isn't it interesting how understanding the context of a single sentence makes such a huge difference?
The next obvious thing is the man wants to know what he can do. Well, that's a great question. What can WE do to have eternal life? The Bible teaches that we must have faith in God. Having faith in God involves believing in God and all He has commanded, does it not?
Also, the man wants eternal life. Does he know that Jesus Christ has power to give eternal life? What does this man believe in now? There are so many fascinating questions and answer in the Bible. I've got lots more thoughts on this verse, but I've got to keep this short. Let's go to the next verse.
Mat 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Jesus Christ responds to the man, ~"Why are you calling me good? Only God is good." Does Jesus Christ say that he is not good? Nope. He never says that. He is asking the man why the man is calling him (Jesus Christ ) good. How you or I or anyone else reads this passage is important. I have read the scriptures with an inflection that makes Jesus Christ sound like he is not good. How could that be? It's good to have someone who understands the Bible to read it to you. Otherwise you can get the wrong idea from the way they turn a legitimate, thought-provoking question into doubt and sin.
So, Jesus says that God is good. True story. God is good. So, that brings up the question, "Is Jesus Christ good?" Yes, I will say so. Jesus Christ is good. What's the point of reading about Jesus Christ in the Bible if you don't believe he is good. And by good, I mean without sin. Do you believe Jesus Christ is without sin? How good is Jesus Christ? Well, let's ask it another way. Is there anything bad about Jesus Christ? Can you be without sin and be bad? OK, I hope you will agree that it's a good thing to call Jesus Christ "good" even as much as God is "good". Perhaps you do (I don't know) believe that Jesus Christ is God. If you don't believe Jesus Christ is God, then this passage won't make much sense to you.
Jesus Christ says "but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments." Hmm. Didn't hear about this in meetings. Did you? LOL. What I read in the Bible is nothing like what I was taught in MEETINGS as a kid. It's nothing like what I taught in MEETINGS when I was a WORKER. For me, "...enter into life..." sounds a lot like "being saved" or gaining "eternal life". This is where I will make the point that it's difficult to understand some things in the New Testament if you haven't read and believed and understood the Old Testament. Let's go back to Exodus 20. God is making a covenant with the children of Israel (Israel is another name for Jacob). And God gave to the children of Israel/Jacob, the ten commandments, and some other teachings too, like the ordinances. So the covenant had to do with them keeping God's commandments and God's part was blessing them. So now, here is a man (probably Jewish, a descendant of Jacob and under the covenant) asking Jesus Christ, how to obtain eternal life. Of course, the first thing is to remind him about the ten commandments. That was his part to keep. Well, what are the ten commandments? If you don't know them, then please check them out in Exodus 20. Understanding the ten commandments and believing in them had a profound impact on how I came to understand this passage. I'm just going to list the ten commandments from memory. You can look them up.
The Ten Commandments
Ok, I've counted and think I've got all ten of them. If not, just let me know in the form below.
To sumamrize, Jesus Christ tells this man to keep the commandments.
