2x2s Keep Going to Meetings Because...It's easier now to be prejudice against Christians than to think about things. They don't mind workers who have sexually abused children in their field since they don't have children. Or if they do, they will just keep a better eye on their kids. They believe the nice things the workers say are harmless. They will just ignore the things the workers say in meetings that they don't like. They don't have to give money at meetings if they don't want They like the simpler gospel meetings The secrecy, mysticisim and intrigue make things interesting. They would rather just sit and listen and feel good for having attended church They believe that this simple way of meeting characterizes God's way on earth They believe the Bible can be interpreted any which way, so why bother studying the Bible for doctrine? They believe God's way is a way of meeting. They would rather have the workers over once or twice a year than give money to a Christian church They like the simplistic level of thinking. They like having non-biblical beliefs. They like the feeling of importance and pride that comes from believing they are one of true believers in the workers way. Their spouse would divorce them if they quit meetings. They would be shunned by 2x2 relatives if they quit meetings. They don't want to miss out on an inheritance if they quit meetings. For years they said that they were Christian, so if they left now they would have to admit they were wrong. They are afraid of the slander that comes from leaving. They don't want to admit they were wrong and wasted so much time in a cult. They have deceived their children and grandchildren for so long that they would hate to admit that it was all a big lie. They have such a good reputation for meeting attendance and having their hair in a bun that they would hate to "let everyone down". They don't want the persecution of leaving the 2x2s and becoming a Christian. It's simpler just to deny facts about William Irvine than to make changes in their life. Giving their testimony once or twice a week doesn't require too much thought and they are already in the habit. Discussing doctrinal issues and changing their minds about things would seem to require too much work. It's easier to just keep going to meetings and discredit other people. They like the power of lies, slander and libel and the manipulation and control they have on kids. The workers have not sexually abused their kids(not yet, at least that they know of). The male workers have not had sex with their wife (not yhet, that they know of). The workers have not interfered in their divorce (not yet). None of the FRIENDS or ELDERS have sexually abused any of their kids (not yet, or that they know of). They don't want to make new friends or have to use discernment in making friends. They don't want to get involved in charities and church activities other than going to meetings and convention preparations once a year. |

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Jesus Christ speaking to Saul, see Act 26:18, see Salvation through Jesus Christ. | |||||
