The Emblems or Sacraments

The EMBLEMS of bread and fruit of vine (grape juice) were passed around at SUNDAY MORNING MEETINGS. Only PROFESSING PEOPLE who had been BAPTIZED by a WORKER were encouraged to take part.

Years ago, when I attended Sunday MORNING MEETINGS, the ELDER passed around some bread and fruit of the vine which we called THE EMBLEMS. It's done about the same way all around the world, being a ritual taught by the WORKERS very loosely copied from the LORD's passover.

The Purpose of the 2x2 EMBLEMS

The purpose of PARTAKING in the EMBLEMS with the 2x2 religion is to serve as an obvious reminder as to who is approved by the WORKERS and who is not. People who are not approved by the WORKERS are not allowed to TAKE PART IN TESTIMONY nor TAKE PART IN EMBLEMS. This is all enforced by the MEETING ELDER whose private property the SUNDAY MORNING MEETING is held at.

Significance of the 2x2 EMBLEMS

The significance of the 2x2 EMBLEMS is the reminder of those who have SACRIFICED ALL (supposedly) , meaning the WORKERS, so that all the people there could PROFESS. Anybody who is a Christian is not allowed to take part in MEETINGS on a regular basis nor take part in the EMBLEMS. If you want to challenge this, simply give me an example with names, dates, places and WORKERS involved in the space provided at the bottom of this page.

What I Knew About the Emblems as a Child

I remember going to SUNDAY MORNING MEETINGS at Bob and Evelyn Brands house next door. The first thing I knew about the emblems was that it was something that only PROFESSING people could take part in and that you had to be baptized. Strangers or OUTSIDERS (non PROFESSING people) were left out. How? The people would pass the emblems around them so they couldn't take any. Or people were advised to let OUTSIDERS know beforehand about the EMBLEMS and this it was not for them. Any way it was done (talks before MEETINGS) or physically bypassing them, it was something that was done. Sometimes it was done in the way it was handed to them, as if to say "Here, take this and quickly pass it to the person next to you." Another way this was done, the ELDER would hand the plate to the PROFESSING person next to the OUTSIDER and start the plate going in the opposite direction. And then the ELDER would collect the plate before it got back around to the OUTSIDER. The message was clear: OUTSIDERS had no part in this part of the MEETINGS, just as in TAKING PART in the MEETINGS during TESTIMONIES. Everyone knew this, and even I knew this as a young child. Years later, they began passing the plate by people who were OUTSIDERS who just passed it around anyway. These OUTSIDERS often mighty uncomfortable and sometimes dubious or freaked out.

As a child, I knew that the bread and fruit of the fine (Welches grape juice with corn syrup in it to sweeten it) was placed on a table in the middle of the MEETINGS. Countless times I remember people hanging their heads before MEETINGS and just staring at it. The clear glass of grape juice usually had Saran wrap over it. And so did the little china plate with white leavend bread on it. Yes, make no mistake, the bread was leavened. All the china plate with bread, clear glass with grape juice and Saran wrap was covered with a linen cloth. This, I gathered, was supposed to be like the linen cloth that covered Jesus in the tomb.

PARTAKING of the EMBLEMS

As a child, I witnessed hundreds of times, the "partaking" of the EMBLEMS. Here was the process:

After the ELDER had spoken (Bob Brands), he chose a hymn or asked someone to suggest a hymn, "Now, we'll sing hymn number X and then we'll give thanks before we partake of the emblems." or "Would someone like to choose a hymn before we partake of the emblems?". And then he would announce the hymn and that we were to sing (typically) the first two verses (and save the rest for afterwards). We would all sing a verse or two.

Then it was open for someone to pray (or the ELDER would pray). Then Bob would get up, take the linen cloth off the EMBLEMS, pluck the Saran wrap off the china plate and walk over and hand the plate to someone who was PROFESSING and had been baptized by a WORKER. They would pick off a small bit about the size of a dime and pass the plate to the person next to them. When the plate got around to the ELDER, he would stand up to accept it, take a bit off and set it on the table in the middle of the room. Then he would sit down, he (or someone else) would SAY THANKS for the bread which represented the body of Jesus, and then he would stand up, take the Saran wrap off the table and hand it to the same person and it would go around the room again just like the china plate with white leavened bread with the crust cut off.

The bread was always passed around first. It was always leavened bread. Grape juice always went around last.

After the EMBLEMS had been PARTAKEN OF, then I remember as a child, an immense feeling of relief. The end of the MEETING was near. Sometimes little children who detected this relief of strain, would pipe up with Is it over mommy?" And people would chuckle inside, perhaps feeling the same way themselves. So after PARTAKING of the EMBLEMS was over, we finished the last bit of the song. Then Bob would get up before everyone else and grab the plate, cup and linen arrangement and carry it to the kitchen.

Years later, when I was about ten years old, I PROFESSED. After making the first step of PROFESSING (we were all made to feel like we had to PROFESS) in the religion I was raised in, then I started taking part in TESTIMONIES in the SUNDAY MORNING MEETINGS. Now granted, I don't think I really realized the obligation of taking part in MEETINGS when I PROFESSED. I just knew (according to the pressure put on me) that it was something I was supposed to do. Granted, there was nothing in the Bible about PROFESSING. The WORKERS obviously taught that you had to PROFESS. They were the ones leading the MEETINGS and the ones who TESTED the MEETINGS with the OVERSEER's approval.

A year or two after PROFESSING, I took the step of being baptized. I knew that baptism was in the Bible. I knew that the Bible taught baptism by immersion because Jesus Christ came up out of the water. I knew that was something God said to do. I believed (at this time) that you were only supposed to be baptized by a WORKER.

When I was about 14 or so, my dad was a backup ELDER. It was at that point I learned what happened before and after the MEETINGS. The bread was taken from a sliced loaf of bread and was cut into a square shape with a knife. Since it was typically white fluffy bread, this put a neat cut mark as it pinched and cut the gummy bread on the edges. The remainder part of the bread was sometimes burned! And also the bit of bread taken back (because people typically pulled off a tiny bit, sometimes no bigger than a pencil head size), this leftover bread was also burnt with the crust. And the grape juice (couldn't burn that, hmmm) was poured down the drain. I would even guess that some might thing this irreverent and pour it onto the ground outside.

To this day, I have never really spoken to people what happened at MEETINGS during the PARTAKING of the EMBLEMS or written about it. But I felt a great need today, because I am horribly sad that I was deceived and had no idea of what the bread and fruit of vine really represented. Sure, I knew they represented the body of Jesus and the blood of Jesus, but what was that? What was I supposed to learn from that? Where was my mind supposed to go with that?

Ritual and Drinking Damantion

As a child, teenager, adult and WORKER, I was ignorantly drinking damnation to myself by partaking of the bread and fruit of the vine in a cult. I wasn't keeping the new testament of Jesus Christ and didn't know what it was. I was fellowshipping with demons.

The PARTAKING OF THE EMBLEMS was a ritual. We didn't believe in God's commandments or sin. We didn't feel a need for the blood of Jesus Christ, and I never understood these things as a kid. Our religion was defined by MEETINGS IN THE HOME, HOMELESS WORKERS WHO WENT IN PAIRS and PROFESSING IN MEETINGS.

The Telling of the Gospel

The reason why I didn't understand the bread and fruit of the vine, and why people shared it was because I didn't know the gospel. There is a reason why the gospel is not just completed with "Just say you believe in God" and be done with it. If you've got a Bible, then I encourage you to take a look at the book of Acts chapter 7 where Stephen was used by God to convict the Jews of their sin. They were terribly angry and killed him.

Yes, there's a reason why the telling of the gospel isn't just "Just say you believe in God". In Acts 24, Paul reasoned with Felix:

Act 24:25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

The whole gospel includes telling about God, his commandments, our sin, repentance and restitution, the law and prophets, blood which takes away the sin (atonement) and the covenants of God. Let me tell you about the New Covenant which I did not understand as a child, teenager or adult after 30 plus years of MEETINGS and 1 and a half years in the 2x2 WORK:

When a person dies, their will goes into effect. Even children know about an inheritance and how a will is read after someone dies so that people know what to do with their belongings. To put it quite simply, Jesus Christ kept the Old Covenant perfectly and died in place for us. He redeemed us and bought us with his blood. So now, we are his. It wasn't as if Jesus Christ forgave us and we're free to do what we want. No, we are bought with the blood of Jesus Christ. So now, the New Testament of Jesus Christ is not just a covenant or testament for someone else, it is legally binding on all of us. So when Jesus died, his will or new covenenant went into effect. So the question is "What is the new covenant?" and "Why wasn't this explained to me before?" and "Why don't I know what it is?"

Before I point to the scriptures which tell of all this, I would like give the scriptures that talk about the new covenant in the blood of Jesus Christ. I will start with the prophecy of Jeremiah about the new covenant:

Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Mat 26:27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
Mar 14:23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many. Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
Luk 22:15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

What's that you ask? What's the passover? Yes, the LORD was sharing the passover. And at the passover you never have leavend bread. And no, the 2x2s have never kept the passover and never will.

New Testament, New Covenant Taught and Practiced by Apostles

Nothing changed when the Apostles of Jesus Christ. Still taught and practiced to this day.

1Co_11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
2Co_3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Paul explains the part of the Old Covenant and New Covenant, the shedding of blood, the instituting of the New Testament when Jesus Christ was crucified etc in Hebrews. Here's a few tidbits, please research all this for yourself.

Heb_8:13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
Heb_9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Heb_12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

What is the New Covenant?

There is no need to guess what the New Covenant is. It's spelled out plainly in the Bible:

Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.
Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Not a Jew?

You may say, I'm not a Jew. That doesn't pertain to me. And I say, then quit telling people you don't believe in the Old Testament because we're in the days of the New Testament. If you believe the New Testament doesn't apply to you, then it's because you are not a child of Abraham, not a child of God and don't have faith in God. And then you also don't believe in the reconciliation of the Jews with the Gentiles and are not part of the church of God. And you wouldn't believe these:

Lev_24:22 Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.
Eph 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Nor would you believe Paul was saved:

Rom_7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

What Law Written on My Heart?

Look it up. It's your responsibility to keep the New Testament of Jesus Christ if you claim to believe in Jesus Christ. The law of enmity was nailed to the cross. But the ten commandments were not. The law of God was the ten commandments. Jesus Christ (God in the flesh) added to the commandments also.

Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

You can see that I was not a disciple of Jesus Christ before when as a child I PROFESSED and kept rituals with cult who didn't keep the new testament. I was a mockery to Jesus Christ.

Joh_15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
Joh_15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

And continued to be taught by the Apostles:

Rom_12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
Rom_13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Gal_5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
Eph_4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

Impossible

Some might say, "Brad, don't tell this because now they will change and start teaching this. Impossible. They know about other false doctrines they teach and yet they persist. It's impossible for the OVERSEERS and WORKERS even after reading this to start teaching the New Testament or to start believing in it. They would never change and start believing and loving God, loving their neighbor, taking God's name in vain, keeping the sabbath, honoring their parents etc. It has never happened and never will. God is as much a part of the 2x2s as a sheep's nature is part of a wolf who wears sheep's clothing.

I welcome the day that OVERSEERS, WORKERS and the FRIENDS started believing in the New Testament and started keeping the commandments of God. WORKERS would repent of their lies, coverup of their false prophet William Irvine, repent of molesting children, make restitution and loving others as Jesus loves. That would be a welcome change.
