Letter To 2x2 Parents - Ruined Childhood

To all the parents in the "Truth", please take a look at what you're teaching your children.

I grew up in a very strict professing home. We weren't allowed to wear anything but dresses most of the time due to "modesty". There are many dresses and skirts worn by professing girls/women that are anything but modest and that's ok because it's a "dress"? There are jeans and pants that are very modest, but that's not ok.

No jewelry? No rings, necklaces, bracelets, or that kind of thing, right? Fancy "pins", hair clips, even scarves that are much flashier and cost more than some costume jewelry are ok?

We weren't allowed to go to the movies or watch TV. Doesn't everyone have the Internet in professing homes? Don't workers use the Internet? How is the Internet ok but TV isn't?

You tell your kids any other religion is wrong because they have a building and have paid preachers. Aren't conventions, special meetings, and gospel meetings in buildings? Don't you give money to the workers? What's the difference?

All of these examples are just a few of the "man made rules"...I could go on and on. It's a double standard. I grew up listening to professing people judge everyone else and be such separatists. This isn't what Jesus taught at all. Growing up like this only causes confusion for kids and it's NOT healthy.

Being a Christian is about your relationship with God, telling others about Jesus, and certainly not judging or thinking you're better than anyone else! Isn't this just a little arrogant? Jesus taught love, not hate! Believe me, I'm not judging anyone.

If you're a grown adult, do whatever you want, but think about the damage you're doing to your children. They're forced to be different, not allowed to participate in so many sports, school activities, go to a good clean movie, or have a balanced life. This leads to being made fun of, singled out at school, isolated, and even bullied as your kids watch their classmates point and snicker.

I'm writing this just hoping some will listen and not allow their children's childhoods to be taken. All it does is cause hurt. There are Christians in other churches. I have seen it. They love people, they love God, and they have Jesus in their hearts. Have a home filled with love! God's love!!

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Jesus Christ speaking to Saul, see Act 26:18, see Salvation through Jesus Christ.
