Hymn 5 - To This Earth
Hymn 5 of the RL Allan and Son hymn book is titled To This Earth.
2x2s Don't Agree with Hymn #5
The immediate recognition of this hymn by 2x2s is the appearance of the justification that a ministry must be homeless to match the pattern they claim that Jesus Christ gave. Verse 2 of "To This Earth" starts "Foxes have their lair for shelter, Birds their leafy nest, but the loving Savior had not where to rest..."
This hymn is in reference to two scriptures:
Mat_8:20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Luk_9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Workers will sing this hymn before they ask WORKERS QUESTIONS to teach children that unless a ministry has homeless WORKERS, then they are of the devil. And that the reason why WORKERS go homeless is because Jesus Christ has set this as a pattern for his ministry. However WORKERS leave off other verses in the Bible such as:
Joh 1:38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
This is typical of cult's to take a verse or two out of context and then build a doctrine or teaching on it that makes them the "righteous" ones and all others going to hell. This is their righteousness but it will not fool God. Their goal is to fool people and gain a following or should I say "foolowing" as they need people's homes to live off of them.
2Pe_2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
