Halloween Celebrated by 2x2s
Many of the 2x2 followers celebrate Halloween. They dress up in costumes and go door to door saying "trick or tree" and come home with candy. Not all 2x2s participate, but from what I have seen, most professing parents with kids do.
What is Halloween
Halloween, or Hallowe'en (a contraction of All Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed.
There are no holy days in the Bible related to Halloween. So while 2x2s claim to only follow the Bible, they have no Biblical backing for this holy day of theirs.
From what I've experienced, 2x2s would sooner celebrate Halloween, the day of the dead, then go to a Christian service. What does that say?
What Does "Celebrate" Mean?
To celebrate something means that you: publicly acknowledge an activity, that you perform a ceremony publicly and duly or officiate something publicly.
My Experience as a 2x2 Child
As a kid, I remember dressing up in pirate's costumes. Pirates are wicked people that robbed others. We would go door to door, knocking and saying "trick or treat!" As a kid, we thought it was harmless and fun.
My parents bought pumpkins and we carved faces into them. We put these pumpkins out on the porch with candles in them. When people knocked on the door, my folks would give the trick or treaters candy.
Memories of Halloween as a Worker
One of the elders in Albany had hosted a Halloween party and people dressed up. One of the young girls dressed up as Howard Mooney, who was the overseer of Oregon at that time.
In Peru, on this celebrated day, people dig up recently buried people and party around them.
|To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Jesus Christ speaking to Saul, see Act 26:18, see Salvation through Jesus Christ.|
