The Gospel of Jesus Christ
After I quit going to meetings because of their offensive ways, I started to read the Bible with Roy Hedahl to see what the gospel really is. We started reading in Matthew, and I was shocked to find that the preaching of Jesus Christ and the apostles was "Repent and believe".
Matthew 3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, and saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
I was shocked. There was nothing in the Bible that said you had to go to meetings held by homeless preachers that went in pairs in order to be saved. Little did I know that I had been deceived and subverted from my youth up by my parents and the workers. I had spent all those years going to meetings and about 1.5 years preaching and did not understand the gospel of Jesus Christ.
It is important to know what the preaching of Jesus Christ really is. So searching through the Bible, I found the following references and started wondering about some really important words that were frequently used when declaring the gospel. I wondered what those words really meant. I humbled myself and tried to see how the Bible defined these words in context.
There are many things that come up in seeing what Jesus preached. There are commandments, morals, sin, repentance, faith in Jesus Christ, baptism of Jesus Christ in the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Here is a brief overview of what I learned. Jesus Christ created heaven and earth (John 1:3), he has authority over all (John 13:3), he has given commandments (Matthew 5:22) and we have all broken at least one commandment (sinned) and disobeyed God (Romans 3:23). As a result, we are all sinners and in bondage to sin (John 8:34). Jesus Christ offered his holy, harmless, undefiled life once as a sacrifice to atone for our sins (Hebrews 7:26-27) to redeem us from sin (Titus 2:14) and if we put our faith in Jesus Christ, we will receive power, be born again, (John 1:12) be redeemed, forgiven, reconciled to God, baptized by Jesus Christ in the Holy Ghost (Matthew 3:11), have works that glorify God, suffer persecution and enjoy eternity in heaven with Him.
I am not trying to do a comprehensive overview of the gospel, Hebrew law etc, but rather to share a little research that I have done in the Bible, and to give a quick overview of critical words and their definitions and how these simple concepts relate so that you will have a basic scriptural understanding to help you start your own research.
