Creation

The beginning of the Bible goes like this

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

The simple gospel is based on the fact that God created heaven and earth and has authority over all of us. His word is law, and he has full authority.

Mat_28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

God has power over life: to give life or to take it away. He has power to send to heaven or to send to hell. God has power to say what it true and what is a lie. I cannot give life. I can take away life, but I cannot cast people into hell. We have authority over some things, but God has authority over everyone.

Mat_10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

I noticed when reading in Matthew's gospel that Jesus added to the commandments. I thought to myself, "What is he doing creating laws and commandments? Who does he think he is?" (see scripture below) Later, when I realized that Jesus Christ is God, then it made sense. Since Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, he can make law and commandments and his word is binding.

Mat 5:31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
Mat 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

If I came up to you and told you that you needed to attend my meetings and give me free room and board in order for you to go to heaven, then I hope you would laugh at me, knowing that I have no authority to cast anyone into hell.

Because God created heaven and earth, God has authority to command us (issue Commandments) what we should and should not do. God has authority and power to cast us into hell or to grant entrance into heaven.

A brief overview of what I learned: Jesus Christ created heaven and earth (John 1:3), he has authority over all (John 13:3), he has given commandments (Matthew 5:22) and we have all broken at least one commandment (sinned) and disobeyed God (Romans 3:23). As a result, we are all sinners and in bondage to sin (John 8:34). Jesus Christ offered his holy, harmless, undefiled life once as a sacrifice to atone for our sins (Hebrews 7:26-27) to redeem us from sin (Titus 2:14) and if we put our faith in Jesus Christ, we will receive power, born again, (John 1:12) be redeemed, forgiven, reconciled to God, baptized by Jesus Christ in the Holy Ghost (Matthew 3:11), have works that glorify God and enjoy eternity in heaven with Him.

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Jesus Christ speaking to Saul, see Act 26:18, see Salvation through Jesus Christ.
