Faith in GodSalvation comes through faith in God and by the grace of God. This is clearly shown by the prophet Abraham in Genesis 15:6 where Abraham called on the name of the LORD, later believed God's promise and it was counted to him for righteousness. We don't know everything when we first hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, but we may want the promise of salvation and to be in heaven after this life is over. When we hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, mix it with faith (believe it) and call on the name of the LORD, in faith, we will be saved. About the 2025 years after creation, Abram, the Syrian, called on the name of the LORD. Read Moses' account of Abram before he heard the promise of God and believed. Gen_12:8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD. Gen_13:4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD. Abram called on the name of the LORD before he was accounted righteous. Psa_116:13 I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. Psa_116:17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD. What does the Prophet Joel Say?Act 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. What did the Apostle Paul Write:Rom_10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 1Co_1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours... About 2030 years after creation, God spoke to Abram, saying: Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. This (the above) was God's promise to Abram. Abram's response was that he believed. God's response was that he granted righteousness unto salvation to Abram. Here's the scripture: Gen 15:6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. Abraham was never saved by the law, because the law of God didn't come until over 430 years later (when the Hebrews/ Children of Israel/Jacob were 430 years in Egypt before crossing the Red Sea and coming to mount Horeb where Moses received the ten commandments of God and in addition the law of Moses. What the Apostles Say About the Prophet AbrahamRom 4:1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. What the Apostles say about the David, the King of IsraelRom 4:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. What David Prayed ForPsa_51:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. So, as we know, the church is built on Jesus Christ, the prophets and the apostles. And the apostles and prophets and Jesus Christ teach clearly that we are saved through faith in God and by God's grace and tender mercies. |
