Convention Preparations or Convention Preps
Preps or preparations is when older brothers workers, workers and their friends prepare the convention grounds and church buildings for annual conventions.
Preparations Goings On
Conventions are against all the teachings of the 2x2s. First, you have church property. And you have a huge building only used once per year. Then, you have all the misdeeds of the workers at preparations. I liken preparations to the workers "playing house" like little kids. Except little kids don't do the things workers do at preps.
Adultery, Fornication, Rape
Preps is a time for the workers to play. After all the "stress" of trying to preach in their assigned field, now they are amongst each other with less stressful activities. Here they are using a rake, digging holes, doing plumbing and bumping into sister workers (forbidden to marry also) and emotions get involved.
It was at preps that the alleged rape of the sister worker by Leslie White took place. It was at preps that my former companion Randy Russell went out and got a room with a sister worker. It is at preps that brother workers and sister workers eyeball each other. There are lots of occasions for adultery and fornication with all the people coming and going.
At preps, there are no "companions". You aren't with a companion all day. People cannot keep track of each other.
At preps, the worker in charge of the convention grounds gathers all the money that the workers have collected throughout the year. When I was an Oregon worker, it was Stanley Sullivan who took all my money.
At preps, tempers flare. Workers who cannot get along go around telling their side of the story of such and such a worker who is a ditz because he cannot do a job. And no wonder. You have workers who are accustomed to being served, waited on, clothes washed etc and here they are trying to build a project, paint something, do plumbing, and often they are unskilled at tasks given to them.
