Worship God or Church?
Should we worship God or should we worship the church? There comes a time when a religious organization or a "church" does not teach what is taught in the Bible. Do we follow God or do we follow the leader of a church?
Who is the Way? Jesus Christ or Preacher?
At some point when 2x2s leave the cult, they may go to a church. They are often faced with the same decision at this "church" as when they were in the cult. What should they do?
The only way to heaven is Jesus Christ.
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
The Limit of Authority
A pastor or preacher of some division of theology never died for your sins. Only Jesus Christ died for our sins. Nobody is given authority by God to teach anything other than what Jesus Christ taught. The apostles were to preach what Jesus Christ had commanded them. Teaching other things is stepping outside the authority given by God.
Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
After I left the 2x2s, I went to "church services" for a while. The problem was my confusion. The pastor's didn't know the scripture even after their pastor school. And even though I didn't know much scripture, I could see their contradictions. They would preach against the commandments of God and then say that we should love each other?? Evidently he didn't think that the sixth commandment of "thou shalt not kill" was not loving? It was really confusion. And why would they allow someone to preach something that didn't make sense instead of wasting the time of about 500 people gathered there and all the time it takes to commute?
I understand that pastors can get confused. But on our WED get-togethers, the people were just praising this pastor's sermon of confusion. I spoke up and got nowhere. It reminded me of worker worship. I didn't go to any more of their preacher praise services. I got to see that the get-togethers were about talking about the pastor's message and not the message of Jesus Christ..
Tithing was taught in grade school to the children. Kids were taught to give money to the church. But that isn't what tithing is about. Tithing is a tenth, to be given to the LORD. Collections are one thing if people want a building, but collections are not tithing and tithing is not about collections. They didn't teach tithing to the adults. Hypocrisy again. I know not everyone is perfect, but when people don't believe the Bible then why learn from them? Vote with your feet.
I joke with people some time and say, "It's easy to start a church. Find ten people with money and get them to tithe to you."
The Real Work is Done...
The pastor's would say that the real work was done in the home meetings. Which is really funny. So then if the real work is done in home meetings, then why have a monstrous building? Aren't we all about the "real work"? If they really felt that way, why did they continue in the tradition of preaching "starter church messages" in a huge expensive building instead of promoting Christ where people could commute locally?
Another problem I had was that they taught to not go into debt. Which is good. Then they were holding a special collection to pay of their debt. That was good. I helped. And then they told me the reason they were paying off their debt was so that they could get a bigger debt to build xxxx so they could serve the community better. ??? hypocrisy. So after I talked with the administrator and saw they weren't going to change, then I left.
If we want to worship God, then we follow Jesus Christ. If we want to be popular in a church, then we follow a pastor who teaches things against God. But there is no guaranteed salvation in being popular in a church. I encourage you to vote with your feet.
