Heresies are taught in churches. Unless a person knows the Bible, they may not recognize them. A person who teaches heresies will die in their sins.

Purpose of Heresies

1Co_11:19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Heresies are lumped in with adultery, witchcraft, murders etc. So is it that bad to teach heresies?

Heresies I've Heard

Here are some heresies I have heard at churches:

  • Sunday is the sabbath or day of worship
  • Denominations are OK (dividing the church is OK??)
  • People of other denominations are saved also, but they just refuse to worship with them??
  • We're saved by faith but somehow you need to join a church???
  • We must tithe to the church (instead of God)
  • We don't need to keep the New Testament/ the ten commandments of God
  • The law of God was done away with on the cross
  • Keeping the law of God is legalism
  • We're saved by grace and faith and don't need to keep the commandments

Heresies are Sin

Heresies are sin and destroy people's faith in God. A pastor that teaches heresies will not inherit the kingdom of God. They should be rebuked.

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Jesus Christ speaking to Saul, see Act 26:18, see Salvation through Jesus Christ.
