Who is God? And Why Should I Care?

Who is God? And why should I care? These are two good questions that many people ask themselves and sometimes ask other people.

Genesis 1

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Whenever I think of God, I think of Him as creator of heaven and earth. This puts my mind in a good perspective about who God is. God created heaven and earth by his word. That reminds me of the power of God's word. Reading further on in Genesis, it tells how God created light, the seas, dry land, fish, birds, animals, day, night, weeks, and mankind: male and female all by speaking it into existence. It is good to be on good terms with God considering how powerful He is and His authority over all creation.

Where Does God Dwell?

God dwells in heaven. Specifically, the heaven of heavens. God dwells among believers.

Exodus 29:45 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God.
2 Chronicles 6:18 But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!
Psalms 69:35 For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.
2 Corinthians 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Where Does God's Name Dwell?

Deuteronomy 12:11 Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD:
1 Kings 8:27  But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?

God's Power Over Life

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

It is good to know that God has power over life. This is a basic teaching of the Bible. When I wonder about my future, and think of my own life, it comforts me to know that God who has created heaven and earth and brought me into this world has control over when I die and is able to resurrect me. Resurrection is taught in the Bible when God will bring our bodies back to life. I fear God more than anyone else, because God has power to resurrect me. God also has power to put my soul into heaven or cast my soul into hell.

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Jesus Christ speaking to Saul, see Act 26:18, see Salvation through Jesus Christ.
