Righteousness By Faith
The Masons literally give out lamb skins and tell them that it is their righteousness. William Irvine got one such lambskin. He was a Mason for 50 years.
William Irvine laid down certain rules. If you fit his rules, then you were OK by him. The workers do the same thing today. They have their own rules. And if you fit their rules, then they will approve of you. But it won't get you into heaven.
If you want to know the righteousness of 2x2s, then just listen to their conversation: "I'm a fourth generation....", "I've had meeting in my home for 14 years....." They are more excited about workers and meetings. You don't hear about them praising God and ministering to the poor. Here's what my righteousness was when I was a 2x2:
My Righteousness as a 2x2
- PROFESSING - I PROFESSED when I was about 10 or 11
- BAPTIZED - meaning batpized by WORKERS into their "GOSPEL" at about 11,12,13
- Faithful meeting attendance
- Always gave my TESTIMONY at MEETINGS when expected
- Prayed for bread and fruit of vine occasionally as expected
- Chose hymns at meetings occasionaly as expected
- Arriving at meetings on time
- Invited the WORKERS into my home
- Gave money to the WORKERS in handshakes and when they stayed in my home
- Took WORKERS out to eat
- Invited people to MEETINGS, including all girlfriends
- Invited high school kids to meetings. One of them even came
- OFFERED FOR THE WORK
- Was a WORKER
- Sent money to WORKERS overseas
- Wrote letters to WORKERS overseas
- Attended the CONVENTIONS and helped out at PREPS (preparations for CONVENTIONS)
- Brought food to PREPS
If you didn't notice, obedience to God was not in the list above.
What is Our Righteousness According to Bible?
Does it matter how righteous we are? I've heard a lot of people say that we are only saved by the righteousness of Jesus Christ. I believe this. But does my righteousness matter then? A verse comes to mind:
Mat_5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
1Jn_3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
Joh_8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Eph_5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
Does this mean that I cannot just say "Oh, I believe in God and go to church..." and consider myself saved? I think so. Jesus Christ talked about "your righteousness", not his. What is my righteousness? I came across a verse when reading the Bible on the phone with a friend.
Deu_6:25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
Clearly, my righteousness is my obedience to the commandments of God. While writing about this, I came across another verse. Righteousness by faith before works of God show:
Righteousness Attributed by Faith in God
Gen_15:6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
I cannot just say "I believe in God." The devils believe in God too. They are not saved. I have to have faith in God. Real faith, not a put on outward show. Faith in God from my heart, soul, mind, strength. It cannot be dead faith without works, without repentance.
Righteousness Justified by Works From Living Faith in God
That excerpt is about Abraham. Now the faith of Abraham was in God, because the works of God were done by Abraham.
Righteousness Likened to Walking in the Light
1Jn_1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
So, I have found in Bible, that there is my righteousness: First by faith and then by works. And this righteousness must exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees (hypocrites). And I'm saved by faith (evidenced by works) in God and the blood of Jesus Christ which cleanses me from all sins.
