God, Good and Goodness

God is good, and God instructs us in goodness.

God Does Good

Anyone who has read the first chapter in Genesis can see that God does good.

Gen_1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
Gen_1:10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
Gen_1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Gen_1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
Gen_1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Gen_1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Gen_1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

It's clear to someone who even does a hasty study of the first chapter of the Bible, that God does good. Also, it's clear today that we are surrounded by the good things that God has done about 6000 years ago.

What is Goodness?

Goodness is doing good. Being good is core to being a disciple of Jesus Christ. When we do good, we are benefiting others without expecting anything (from man) in return. This glorifies God.

Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Doing good requires faith that God will reward us.

Heb_11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Luk_6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Jesus Christ is good.

Joh_10:32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?

Psalm 107 - Song of God's Goodness

Psalm 107 is a song of God's goodness, showing situations of how people have cried out to God and God has heard them and delivered them out of their distress.

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Jesus Christ speaking to Saul, see Act 26:18, see Salvation through Jesus Christ.
