How To Use Sun, Moon and Stars for Time Keeping

How to use the sun, moon and stars for keeping track of time.

God's Sun, Moon and Stars Mark Time

Genesis 1:14  And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

Eloheem (The LORD God) has created the sun, moon and stars for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.

I will show you how you can use the sun, moon and stars to keep track of time.

First, go outside and observe. Is it sunrise (sun still rising over Eastern horizon), full daylight, sunset (sun is going down over Western horizon) or is it night time (no sun visible)?

12 Hours in a Day

If the sunrise is past and the sun has just fully risen, then it is day. The day is divided into 12 hours. The moment the sun has risen completely begins the first hour. The end of the 6th hour is the middle of the day. The end of the 12th hour is when the sun begins to set. The sun rules the day.

Four Watches of the Night

The night begins with the sunset. The moon and stars rule the night. There are four night watches. They include the transitions from sunset, pitch black, first light and sunrise. I hope to add more later to this.

Now that we have determined days and night, let's move on to the day of the month.

Day of the Month

The month begins after the moon has reigned the full night. The example of this was the fully dark moon during Jesus crucifixion in which we have a solar eclipse. The lunar month is 29.5 days long. So if you go back 14.75 days from Abib 15th at 7th hour (middle of eclipse), you end up with full moon happening the night before the first day of the month. Please see New Moon Day for details.

First day of the month - New Moon day

The first day of month is a holy day. So no work is done. A full moon would have occurred the previous night.

The second day of the month is the first work day.

The third day of the month is the second work day.

The fourth day of the month is the third work day.

The fifth day of the month is the fourth work day.

The sixth day of the month is the fifth work day.

The seventh day of the month is the sixth work day.

The eighth day of the month is the seventh day (after working six days) and so is the sabbath, a day of rest.

The ninth day of the month is the first work day.

The tenth day of the month is the second work day.

The eleventh day of the month is the third work day.

The twelfth day of the month is the fourth work day.

The thirteenth day of the month is the fifth work day.

The fourteenth day of the month is the sixth work day. (Passover is kept on Abib 14th in the evening)

The fifteenth day of the month is the seventh day, a day of rest, the sabbath.

Jesus Christ was crucified on the 15th day of the month Abib. The solar eclipse was from the 6th to the 9th hour, roughly 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. This is in spring time, so the 12 hour system of time is close to Western 12 hours on a watch beginning after sunrise.

The sixteenth day of the month is the first work day.

The seventeenth day of the month is the second work day.

The eighteenth day of the month is the third work day.

The nineteenth day of the month is the fourth work day.

The twentieth day of the month is the fifth work day.

The twenty-first day of the month is the sixth work day.

The twenty-second day of the month is the seventh day, a day or rest, the sabbath.

The twenty-third day of the month is the first work day.

The twenty-fourth day of the month is the second work day.

The twenty-fifth day of the month is the third work day.

The twenty-sixth day of the month is the fourth work day.

The twenty-seventh day of the month is the fifth work day.

The twenty-eighth day of the month is the sixth work day.

The twenty-ninth day of the month is the seventh day, a day or rest, the sabbath.

Since there are 29.5 days in the month, then you may have full moon reigning over the night of the 29th. If so, then the next day is full moon day.

If full moon does not reign through the night of the 29th, then the next day, the thirtieth day, is a work day and during the night will be a full moon. There is always a full moon on the night of the 29th or the night of the 30th. So months will either have 29 days or 30 days. No exceptions.

*Important - please note that this is a typical month. Some months the LORD God has set aside some days for feasts. On the seventh month there is a sabbath on the 10th. You can read about the feasts of the LORD and additional sabbaths in the Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and I think in Deuteronomy too.

The first month of the Year.

Now that we have night and day sorted out, and the day of the month, the next thing to figure out is the month of the year.

Going back to Exodus, we see that the barley in Egypt wasn't yet ripe when smitten by the LORD God. Egypt is North of the equator, so the barley was ripening in Spring of the Northern Hemisphere.

Ripened barley is needed for the feasts and the wave offering by the 15th day of the month. So if barley is going to be ripe by the 15th day of the month after a full moon through the night, then that month is the first month of The LORD God.

Again, if that night is going to be full moon, and you look at the barley (in Israel) and it will be ripe in 15 days, then the next day is Abib 1.

The moon will show you when the next month starts. According to the month and the day of the month is when the feasts of the LORD God are kept.

When you reach the first month again, then you have finished the year.

There are either 12 or 13 months in a year.

There are things to be done according to the 7th year and the 49th year but I don't know yet how to determine which year we are in with regard to keeping those times.

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Jesus Christ speaking to Saul, see Act 26:18, see Salvation through Jesus Christ.
