Going 2 by 2 or Going 2x2

2x2 preachers go out in pairs. Their bosses, their overseers, assign each preacher a companion for the year along with an assigned geographical area in which they are to preach the 2x2 message of 2x2 homeless preachers and meetings in the home.

In order for me to become a 2x2 preacher, the overseer wanted all my money and for me to be homeless. Only then would he make me a worker. And the first year I was assigned my "companion" Randy Russell and the field of Albany/Corvallis, Oregon. And the following year in 1990, I was assigned the companion of Craig Jacobsen in the field of Oregon City and Aurora, Oregon.

Why do the 2x2 overseers preach that people have to go out in pairs? It's what William Irvine taught them. And it fits their man-made strategy - having two workers allows one worker to report (tell on to the overseer) their fellow preacher if he "steps out of line".

And what scripture do they use to justify their beliefs that ministers who don't go out in pairs are going to hell?

The overseers twist Matthew 10 and Mark 10 to try to justify their man-made rule.

Other Religions that Go in Pairs

The 2x2 religion isn't the only one that goes out in pairs. Mormons send out young missionaries in pairs, and so do Jehovah Witnesses. But the denomination you would most likely be interested in that sends out ministers in pairs is the Faith Mission that William Irvine belonged to before he started his religion. The Faith Mission sent out "workers", yep, "workers" in pairs. That explains two things: 1) Why their "workers" are called workers and 2) Why William Irvine first went out with another man to preach. I used to be a worker, and my first companion Randy Russell told me that our ministry was based on Matthew 10, Mark 10, Luke 10 and John 10. But when he went through and tried to explain it to me, I was left puzzled. We didn't cast out devils or heal all manner of sicknesses. Can you imagine the weirdness of believing you are supposed to be following this scripture but God has not given you this power. I felt disillusioned with Randy and what he was trying to teach. What he was trying to teach me just wasn't Biblical.

Matthew 10

A person said, "Never read a verse in the Bible.", as a play on "Never read just one verse of the Bible out of context." So, let's look at Matthew 10, in context.

About 30 years before, Jesus Christ ("God with us") was born to Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem. Jesus Christ grew up, obeying all the commandments of God, was baptized by John the Baptist, was tempted of Satan and then began preaching. The gospel of Jesus Christ was:

Mat_4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

You may say "Hey, the workers preach that they are the only way, not repentance from sins, or that the kingdom of heaven is at hand." And you're right. See 2x2 Gospel. So Jesus Christ wants to spread the message of the kingdom of God, and he's to choose 12 men to spread the glorious gospel message. So let's look at the first verse of Matthew 10.

Mat 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

You may say, "Hey, the workers don't have power against unclean spirits, to cast them out or heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease." And you're right. There has never been a case where workers have had this power.

And in like manner, you see that Jesus Christ, in speaking to the 12 apostles, told them to only go to "lost sheep of the house of Israel". And you may say, "Hey, the workers don't go to only Israel. And you're right. I hope you can see that the OVERSEERS take things out of context and twist scripture to try to justify their rules.

And continuing on, as you read through Matthew 10, you will find that the OVERSEERS and WORKERS don't keep Matthew 10 at all. But then when they get to this verse, where Jesus Christ is again speaking to the 12 apostles, the OVERSEERS and WORKERS claim that this is commanded of them.

Mat 10:2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

The overseers believe that because the names are listed in pairs, that only true ministers of God ever go out in pairs and all others are going to hell. Isn't that a far cry from what is really in Matthew 10? The Bible teaches that liars are going to hell and are of the devil.

Rev_21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Isn't it more reasonable to believe that people are children of the devil if they persist in telling lies? Hopefully you can see how ridiculous it is to believe that only true ministers of God preach in pairs and how this is not a commandment of God for preachers today, but a good lesson to come away with is that telling lies is something God hates.

Mark 10

Let's look at Mark 10 now. This is another passage of scripture, as recorded by Mark this time, where Jesus Christ is sending out the 12 (twelve) apostles. You may remember, that these 12 apostles have already been sent out and are now in paradise, and that God is sending out another 12 apostles because the first 12 failed.

So if you read Mark 10:1 and on, you can see how the workers don't follow those, nor are they intended to. But getting down to their favorite verse 7, we read:

Mar_6:7 And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

If you are a 2x2, you may say, "Well, there it is! Black and white! It's biblical." But hold on a second. Jesus Christ called 12! Count them 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 names listed there, and we all know their names. And they were sent to the lost sheep of Israel,...All those scriptures applied to the twelve apostles, not a cult started by William Irvine in about ~1890s. In this very verse, it says that God gave the 12 apostles power over unclean spirits. So now you can see how weird it is for overseers to require their staff of workers to go out in pairs and how ridiculous it is for them to take commands given by Jesus Christ to the twelve apostles and apply it as a rule today. If you read in Acts of the Apostles, you will see that it was not a teaching of theirs to go about in pairs, but they did warn against telling lies. Let's see that verse again:

Rev_21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

So if an overseer, or worker or one of the friends tries to tell you that all preachers who don't go out in pairs or two by two are going to hell, you can remind them of the scripture in Rev 21:8 about liars and that telling lies is something that God hates. Ask them if they believe liars are going to hell. You don't have to convince them that telling lies is evil, just witness to them. God will throw liars into hell whether they believe the scripture you tell them or not.

Wrong to Preach in Pairs?

Anyone can research and find that many prophets preached by themselves. For example, John the Baptist preached solo. But is it a sin to preach alone? No, there is no commandment forbidding it. Many workers claim that people had to go in pairs so that they were believed "the witness of two makes it true". That is not the case. As said before, many prophets preached alone, including John the Baptist. So that dispels this argument of the workers. When they preach that preachers have to go in pairs, this is a lie. It is not a sin to preach alone, or in pairs. But to preach a lie, whether solo, or in pairs, is a sin. And liars go to hell. The workers can count on that.
