2x2s Claim Jesus not God
When the 2x2 religion began, some workers believed that Jesus Christ is God. But today the workers teach that Jesus Christ being God is a heresy and the work of the devil.
Most cults are founded on one or more misunderstood texts. Here is one text the 2x2s misinterpret and misuse to justify their belief that Jesus Christ is not God.
Mark 10:17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
At first glance (if you don't know Jesus Christ), you might agree with their interpretation and say, "Well Jesus is saying "Don't call me good, only God is good." and then quit thinking and blindly agree with the workers.
But consider this. Jesus Christ never says that he isn't good. The man that came to him called him "Good master". So Jesus Christ simply asks the man, "Why are you calling me good?" It's a rhetorical question. Jesus is simply asking why the man called him good. Jesus adds, "Only God is good." A person could rephrase it like this, "You just called me 'Good master' and only God is good. Do you realize who I am?"
Perhaps you agree with the workers, and you don't think it was a rhetorical question. If so, then you have to believe that Jesus Christ is claiming NOT to be God. So then, if you believe this, you have to believe that Jesus Christ is not good! Oops. If you believe Jesus Christ is the sinless, perfect Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, then you believe that Jesus Christ is not good...? Can you see how these views conflict? You cannot have Jesus Christ be good and not be good. But you can interpret the verses correctly and believe Jesus Christ is good and Jesus Christ is God.
It all comes down to this: Do you believe Jesus Christ is good? And when you discuss these verses with the workers they will likely refuse to comment, as many head workers have refused to comment already.
The bottom line is this: the overseers have made it plain - if you believe Jesus Christ is God and teach this, then you will have the meetings removed from your home. See a former 2x2 elder's experience - Earl George
Sometimes workers speak publicly about their beliefs, but this isn't common. However when the 2x2 worker Percy Watkins in UK committed suicide, Peter Liddle (Percy's companion) spoke at the funeral and claimed that Jesus said that He wasn't good. Here you can read it for yourself - proof many workers don't believe Jesus Christ is good or God. Here's a quote from Percys Funeral Notes with Peter Liddle quoted below from :
...That was the spirit of Jesus, it was the spirit of Joseph, and I believe it was the spirit of Percy also. One other thought, Percy was a humble man. The verse that's been coming to my mind is the time that man came to Jesus and he said 'Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.' Jesus had a lot to do with sinners, he had a lot to do with self-righteous religious people, and he had a lot to do with some of the best men living on earth at that time, and He said that no one is good, not even himself. No one is good but my Father in Heaven. We're thankful for that- that none of us are good, we all need the mercy of God - we all need the cleansing that Jesus affords, and we're grateful for the hope that we have today.
