2x2s Similar to Roman Catholic Church
The 2x2 religion is similar in many ways to the Roman Catholic Church. The teachings of the 2x2 religion are simply variations from the Roman Catholic Church. The 2x2 religion is simply a harlot daughter. I will show the similarities.
Pope - Overseer - Trying to Take the place of God
The pope claims to be the Vicar of Christ. Overseers claim to be a substitute for Christ, that Christ lives in them and that they speak the words of God.
This is similar to Roman Catholic writings:
From Praeclara Gratulationis Publicae..
... But since We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty, who will have all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth, and now that Our advanced age and the bitterness of anxious cares urge Us on towards the end common to every mortal, We feel drawn to follow the example of Our Redeemer and Master, Jesus Christ, who when about to return to Heaven, implored of God, His Father, in earnest prayer, that His disciples and followers should be of one mind and of one heart: "I pray...that they all may be one, as thou Father in Me, and I in Thee: that they also may be one in Us."
The overseers by their words and actions want the place of God Almighty in your life too.
I have talked with elders, asking them to obey the words of Jesus Christ, and they have refused to obey Jesus Christ unless the workers and overseers gave them permission first. This told me (as well as the workers own words) that 2x2s obey the workers and overseers above (instead of) God.
Day of Worship - Sunday
Pope Gregory came up with the Gregorian calendar, establishing an endless loop of a week of 7 days beginning with Sunday, the day of the Sun god.
The 2x2s worship on Sunday also as their day of worship. 2x2s ignore new moon day in the Bible and do not view the sabbaths of Yahweh as holy. In fact some workers teach that Sunday is the sabbath. Workers do not believe that the sun, moon and stars created by Yahweh should be used for signs, season, days and years as God created them for and recorded in scripture:
Genesis 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Some workers believe that they worship on Sunday, claiming it is the first day of the week. They believe that Jesus Christ was resurrected on the first day of the week, using a mistranslation of the word "sabbaton" (which means sabbath(s)) to mean "week" and don't use consist rules in Bible translation. They disregard the time keeping of Jesus Christ who created the heaven and the earth, the sun, moon and stars and who died on passover (Abib 15th) for our sins.
Foundation of Their Churches
Roman Catholics claim Peter is the foundation of their church.
I have heard workers say that they believe that "the revelation that they are the way is the foundation for the church."
However both of these teachings show their churches are not founded on Jesus Christ:
Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
"Ex Cathedre" - Immune from Possibility of Error
Many Catholics believe that the pope is immune from the possibility of error when he speaks.
Papal infallibility is a dogma of the Catholic Church that states that, in virtue of the promise of Jesus to Peter, the Pope is preserved from the possibility of error "when, in the exercise of his office as shepherd and teacher of all Christians, in virtue of his supreme apostolic authority, he defines a doctrine concerning faith or morals to be held by the whole Church. - from Wikipedia
Some 2x2s believe that whatever workers speak from the platform is the word of God, as if their religion would never contain a false prophet in their ministry.
Pope and Overseers Want Obedience Above God
We cannot have two Lords. Either we will love the one and hate the other..
Deu 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: Deu 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
The Pope expects and demands to be obeyed above God. Their teachings are not inline with Jesus Christ. At a Roman Catholic event, they were teaching that the pope is a replacement for Jesus Christ. A little girl woke up half out of sleep and said "Nobody replaces Jesus Christ". Amen to that.
Overseers expect people to obey them above Jesus Christ. Overseers demand they be supported regardless of the righteousness of their decisions.
"Are you prepared to support the Alberta ministry in all of their decisions regarding removal of meetings and removing people from the fellowship? Yes or No?" - Jim Knipe's question before excommunicating without bringing any offense before the church as in Math 18:15-20
What convinced me to leave the 2x2s was when Linda Brist (a 2x2 worker in Oregon) told me in front of other people and workers (who did not rebuke her) that I should obey the workers instead of God and God would sort things out later.
They Believe They are the Way
Overseers believe their way is "the way". They believe that their words are "the truth". They believe that outside of them, people cannot have "life".
Roman Catholics and 2x2 Religion
Both the Roman Catholics and the 2x2 Religion reject the sabbath and worship on Sunday instead.
At least the Roman Catholics admit that they have no scriptural basis for their disobedience to God.
Child Sexual Abuse
Both the Roman Catholic Church and the 2x2 religion have problems with child sexual abuse and with covering it up.
However the scripture tells us to watch and pray to prevent entering into temptation. The Bible teaches us to confess our sins and forsake them.
Rejecting God's Covenant
The Roman Catholic Church rejects the covenant with God and has changed which commandments they will and will not obey. They leave out the commandment of having idols, because they worship idols.
The 2x2s reject the testament made with God and call it the "old testament", saying "we are not under the old testament, but under the new." However the "new testament" they refer too is the same law of God written on our hearts. They reject obedience to the law of God.
Idolatry - Mary and the Workers
It is no secret that Roman Catholics pray to Mary and idolize her. The Roman Catholic religion omits idolatry from the ten commandments.
It is not secret that many of the friends of the workers idolize the overseers and workers. Some call it "putting the workers on a pedestal. They should call it what it is "idolatry".
Excommunications - Heretics
The teachings of Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew 18 show that those who offend in the church are to be talked with privately, then with witnesses, and finally before the whole church before people are considered heretics.
The 2x2s believe that one worker acting under the authority of their leader / overseer can excommunicate someone by the authority granted by their overseer. And as such completely disregard the teachings of Jesus, the Christ.
The Roman Catholic Church believes in calling people heretics without bringing the issue before their church also.
I hope you can see the many similarities between the Roman Catholic Church and the 2x2 religion.
