A sample of 2x2 Rhetoric

A sample of 2x2 rhetoric. Sadly, most 2x2s believe this stuff and don't know the Bible enough to refute 2x2 lies. Refutations of this 2x2 rhetoric will be provided at the end.

The two and two, homeless, unsalaried ministry, worship in homes. If we want to know the Jesus of the truth we need to know the truth of Jesus

When one looks out into the world and sees the thousands of different denominations all saying that they are the right way and all saying that they believe in Jesus who prayed to his Father that "They all might be one" it is no wonder that one is left in confusion as to what is right. There is one thing of which we can be sure and that is that if Jesus prayed that his would all be one, that his will all be one. That means that all these different ones cannot be right and simply will not be among his.

Is it any wonder that the writer of this poem penned these words as he considered the chaos that is called Christianity today?

They go something like this:

I would dear Jesus I could break,
the walls that creeds and heresies make
and like thy first disciples be,
in person led and taught by thee.
I read they words so pure and sweet
and trace the foot prints of they feet
But men so mystify the trace,
I long to see thee face to face.

Is there a way then that we can know what is right and what is wrong? Is there criteria that can be applied that will bring out the truth and expose the Devil's lies that are reigning among men in the world today? Is there scriptures on which we can solidly base our faith so that our treasure will truly be laid up in heaven and not thrown away and wasted on Satan's deceptions? The answer to each of the above is Yes, There is. It is the two and two, homeless, unsalaried ministry that Jesus lived and taught. All the so-called Christian churches in the world today claim to follow Jesus but vehemently reject that which was and still is the true foundation upon which his church is built. Does that seem strange? It really should not seem so strange as this is exactly what Jesus said would happen. There are two facts that we can stress in this connection: Jesus never established a format for a church worship. Jesus did very definitely establish a way the gospel should be preached.

In the religious world today men have turned things topsy-turvy. They have put all the emphasis on the form of church worship and have neglected and even rejected the manner of preaching the gospel that Jesus lived and taught. Is it any wonder then that there is such confusion of religion in the world? They are trying to produce a new testament church without a new Testament ministry. This is impossible and the results that we see in the world should testify clearly of this fact. The worship system of the churches is pretty much the same the world over and in all the denominations. There is the building, the congregation, and the resident preacher. The congregation is expected to pay for the building and its upkeep as well as the salary for the preacher to pay his or her housing and upkeep. The preacher is expected to get the money out of the congregation with which to do this and also to grow the numbers of the members so as to increase the income of the church and to pay for the remodels and if necessary a new building in the event that the numbers outgrow the space and requirements. This includes preaching sermons that are pleasing to the ears of the congregation. A really tough job for a lot for them, no doubt. Of course if the preacher is talented and educated enough he can become famous and wealthy as some have done, but no doubt the biggest number of them do not share this fortune, if one may call it a fortune. These buildings will differ in size and elegance depending on the religion, the area and the demographics in general. If the congregation is small and poor, the buildings will also be small and poor. If the congregation is large and wealthy the building will be large and elegant. In any case it will be referred to as the house of God. Jesus did not build any buildings nor did he instruct his disciples to do so. Some would say that that was because the church was in its infancy and the need wasn't there. let us not forget that tat times there were large numbers of people following him. Had it been in his plan to do so he would have collected money from them and built a building to surpass anything in the land. He was no doubt the most gifted person that ever walked on this planet and if it had been in his plan to do so he could have preached sermons more beautiful and inspiring than the world had ever heard or heard of. Jesus did not gather people together like sheep to fleece them. He spoke to them to feed them. Every time they gathered around him they were fed with spiritual bread. We have two accounts where he fed them natural bread but that was to show them and his disciples his power to feed. He was more interested by far to give them spirtual food than the natural. That is what he came for. Look at the following verse: Matthew 20:28 Even as the son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. He did not come to be ministered to, that is why he didn't take up a collection. He came to minister, that is why he gave them bread. Every preacher that is a true follower of Jesus will follow this example. Jesus did not appoint a resident preacher. He sent his preachers out into all the world. They were to go from city to city, village to village, and from town to town. He sent them out with no more than their current needs and when he later asked them if they had lacked anything they said "Nothing". He sent them to preach the gospel free of charge taking away from them the right to ask for money. Why would they need to ask for anything when he was so faithful to supply all their needs without them asking? So different than the denominational ministry in the world today. They are always needing more money, like the leech that never gets enough. So to sum it up, what do we have? We have a congregation that serves a building and a preacher that serves a congregations that serves a building. None of this was in the plan or the actions of Jesus.

The apostle Paul believed in this ministry, note the following:
1 Corinthians 9:18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

1 Corinthians 4:9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.

1 Corinthians 4:10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.

1 Corinthains 4:11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thrist, and are naked, and are buffeted and have no certain dwelling place;

through 4:16

He didn't need to be ashamed to ask people to follow him as he was truly following Christ. That is why Jesus sent them thus, so they would be a testimony of him in the world and those who would follow them would be following Christ. That is why the ministry that he taught is so important, because without it there is no testimony of him. Without it there is only talk of Jesus and not true representation and no foundation on which to build the true church.

Jesus said that there would arise false Christ's and false prophets and would deceive many and that has truly been the case in the world. He also made clear in John 14,15,16 that those who would be led by the spirit would be those that would keep his commandments. That would include his commandments concerning the way he taught them to preach the gospel. So if we are honest before God we will conclude that if the way of worship we are looking at does not have the two and two, homeless unsalaried ministry, it is a false religion and only a deception of Satan. Men of all religions have found detours around these truths and really in their hearts despise them even as they profess love for God and Jesus.

The false Christ's and false prophets abound because the people want them and are willing to pay them for their service. And they are willing to serve for a price. But God and Jesus both knew that there would always be a few, very few, that would not accept them and would seek the truth of Jesus so they can know the Jesus of the truth.

  • 2x2s don't follow and preach even the commandments of Jesus Christ
  • The 12 apostles were commanded to raise the dead, heal the sick etc. see Matthew 10. 2x2 workers don't do these commands, so they have proven themselves false prophets according to their own bad logic.
  • the 2x2s do receive a salary. They collect food from their followers, sleep in the followers homes (not their own) and don't have a job (so they collect money from their followers), and they have expensive (according to them) annual conventions
  • Each year their overseers take mandatory collections of all the money of the workers. This is something the apostles never did of each other.
  • The early disciples did meet an an elaborate, expensive temple, at Jesus' command.
  • The apostles taught in an expensive temple:
Acts 5:25  Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
Act_5:42  And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
  • God's will was Jesus will, and it was God's will that the temple be built. So the 2x2s condemn God for building a temple.
  • The early disciples met wherever they wanted to for fellowship.
  • The 2x2s demand that worship only be done in homes, except when they demand that they fellowship in an annual convention meeting barn or shed.
  • The apostle Paul worked for a living, something the 2x2 workers don't do
  • J Wood misuses the scripture he refers to.
2 Peter 3:16  As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
  • The apostle Paul did collect wages at some point.
2 Corinthians 11:8  I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service.
